Info about Dr. Sterringer
Rev. Shanon Sterringer, PhD, is the pastor of The Community of St. Hildegard in Fairport Harbor, OH. Shanon’s background is in Catholic Social Teaching and Roman Catholic Theology, but her passion is in the work of St. Hildegard of Bingen, a twelfth-century German visionary. Shanon founded and operates the Hildegard Haus www.hildegardhaus.org.In addition, she is a professor, writer, and owner of a fair-trade store, The Green Shepherdess. She has published two books, „30 Day Journey with St. Hildegard of Bingen“ (Fortress Press, 2019) and „Forbidden Grace: Hildegard of Bingen and a Modern Woman’s Call to the Catholic Priesthood“ (PageMill Press, 2022). She holds a PhD in Ethical and Creative Leadership, DMin in Theology, MA in Ministry, MA in Theology, and a BA in Religious Studies. Shanon is married with three adult daughters and lives in Fairport Harbor, Ohio.
Encounter & Interest in Hildegard of Bingen
Shanon encountered Hildegard in 2009 while writing her doctoral dissertation at St. Mary’s Seminary on the topic of women and ecclesial leadership. She has traveled to Bingen, Germany several times since 2015 to walk in the footsteps of Hildegard of Bingen for research and personal/professional development. She joined Dr. Annette Esser in 2019 for the Hildegard Pilgrimage Walk. Over the last decade, she has offered dozens of retreats, classes, and seminars on the various topics relating to Hildegard of Bingen for churches, educational programs, and herb societies. The Hildegard Haus shrine in Fairport Harbor is dedicated to promoting the charism and work of St. Hildegard of Bingen.
